Unlimited bidders. Zero lag. The reverse auction platform built for what's at stake.

Switchbox re-architected eBridge's reverse auction platform using SignalR for real-time bidding and a React frontend—removing all supplier caps and performance bottlenecks to support state governments and enterprise procurement teams with a best-in-class, high-stakes bidding experience.

The Challenge

Performance bottlenecks that capped growth

eBridge is a trusted partner to state governments and enterprise procurement teams, powering reverse auctions for the State of South Carolina, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and more. But their original application was struggling under pressure.

Auctions couldn’t handle more than 10 suppliers without the system lagging or breaking down. Suppliers were limited to 10 line items per bid, restricting auction complexity. The server couldn’t keep up with real-time data requests, leading to delays and inconsistent updates during auctions. The result: a poor user experience in an industry where split-second decisions matter.

eBridge needed a scalable, real-time platform that could support high-volume bidding with zero friction.

Our Approach

Re-architecting for real-time, high-stakes bidding

Switchbox leveraged years of firsthand knowledge of eBridge’s business to identify the root causes of their performance limitations—a server architecture unable to handle concurrent real-time data requests and a frontend relying on page refreshes during live auctions.

We designed a new architecture centered on SignalR for bi-directional WebSocket communication and a React frontend for dynamic, real-time updates—rebuilding the platform from the ground up for scale without disrupting eBridge’s existing procurement workflows.

What We Built

Real-time, scalable architecture built on SignalR and React

Switchbox implemented SignalR for real-time communication, enabling bi-directional server/client updates via WebSockets and other modern protocols. A React-based frontend dynamically updates bidding data on-screen without page refreshes or delays.

The fully re-architected platform was designed for scalability, speed, and stability across high-stakes auctions—a fundamental transformation of how eBridge delivers value to procurement teams and suppliers.

The Results

Unlimited bidders, instant updates, zero lag

eBridge now runs a dynamic, high-performance reverse auction platform with no limits on user count or bid complexity. There are no more supplier caps—bidding is fluid, scalable, and accessible for unlimited participants. There is no lag or bottlenecks—even under peak load, the system performs in real time.

For eBridge, it’s not just a smoother experience—it’s a strategic advantage. The platform now supports their continued growth and leadership across government and private sector procurement markets.
