The OSU-SRI team, led by Dr. William Marras, has spent decades advancing ergonomic research and workplace injury prevention. But their validated risk assessment technology, the iLMM, needed to evolve into a more modern and scalable solution.
Their goal was to bring a next-generation tool, Conity Ergo,to life. It would require turning complex sensor data and research models into an accessible, cloud-based application that employers across industries could actually use.
Switchbox collaborated with OSU researchers, industrial designers at Priority Designs, and leading industry stakeholders including Amazon, Michelin, Liberty Mutual, and Riddell. Our role was to build the custom software platform that would enable Conity Ergo to operate in real-world settings.
We designed and developed the data visualization and analytics infrastructure behind Conity Ergo. This included building secure, scalable ways to capture ergonomic sensor input, run calculations, and display injury risk insights in an intuitive interface for end users.
The result was a fully functional prototype that passed its first real-world test with flying colors. In a live field trial with helmet manufacturer Riddell, Conity Ergo successfully demonstrated its ability to translate spine motion data into clear, actionable injury risk assessments.
Following the success of that trial, OSU-SRI received a $2 million follow-on grant to continue developing the platform into a commercially viable product.
