In the Room Is Where it Happens
Last month, we hosted a happy hour in our office. Nothing fancy. Just an open invite to clients, partners, and teammates. There was no agenda. No “networking strategy.” Just people hanging out and sharing the same space.
And honestly, it was one of the best things we’ve done all year.
Here’s why: No one was talking about OKRs, or KPIs. No one was pitching or posturing. There was no talk about projects or budgets. Believe it not, there was hardly any talk about AI. Instead it was about upcoming weddings, flowers, and food. We relived memories and retold stories of the past. None of which happened on Zoom.
It wasn’t about who you are on paper. It was about who you are when you’re present.
And that’s what made it powerful. The conversations weren’t deep because they were curated (although the drinks were!). They were deep because they were in person.
So here’s the takeaway from that night:
If you want more trust in your team, your business, your neighborhood, or your own home…don’t say more. Just show up more.
The power isn’t in the plan…it’s in the room.
