Switchbox recently hosted ProductTank Columbus’ October Meetup, a Halloween-themed event titled “Feature Graveyard Stories: Lessons from Features that Didn’t Make It.”
ProductTank kicked things off with a roundtable discussion where attendees shared their own “feature graveyard” stories. For product people, a “feature graveyard” is a collection of ideas, launches, or well-intentioned builds that, for whatever reason, never quite made it. And while discussing “failures” might sound depressing, it was anything but. It was inspiring to hear how Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers all work together to build and continually improve their projects.
The stories shared were diverse, ranging from technical roadblocks to shifting market needs and misunderstood user problems, offering multiple takeaways for everyone. A favorite retrospective observation from the night was: “No matter how big or small the organization, we’re all dealing with the same challenges.”
