The Suggestion Box

January 2026

What are we reading, tuning into, and bingeing? The Switchbox team came to the table with a diverse lineup of recommendations.

Bingeable Drama

Must Watch’s on AppleTV: This multi-season spy drama Slow Horses is a hit with Trip, Tommy, and TJ. Not your average Bond-style thriller, it’s a gritty, twisty crime drama following a dysfunctional crew of MI5 rejects. Meanwhile, Zach and Lisa are raving about Pluribus. From the creator of Breaking Bad, the series offers a fresh take on the story of an alien invasion.

High-Stakes on Paramount+: For mood and intensity, TJ and Tommy both point to Landman. Set in the Texas oil fields and created by modern Western TV king, Taylor Sheridan, it’ll feel like home to any fans of Yellowstone. Set across the pond, Tommy recommends MobLand, an edgy, complex period piece about warring mob families fighting for control of the London underworld.

Extinctions & Invasions

The Final Frontier: For a bit of genre-bending, follow Tommy & Evan's lead into "Dungeon Crawler Carl." Part alien-invasion thriller, part LitRPG fantasy, it’s a singular survival story that is as imaginative as it is addictive. On the non-fiction side, Zach points to "Age of Disclosure," a compelling documentary look into the shifting narrative around UAPs and what the government might actually know. Looking for a re-read, Shital went back to this sci-fi classic "The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy" and found that it hadn’t lost its luster.

Ancient History: Tess is proudly leaning into her inner nerd with "The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs" by Steve Brusatte. A vivid, epic biography of a lost world, it weaves together the most recent paleontological discoveries to tell the comprehensive history of the dinosaurs’ 200-million-year reign and their dramatic exit.

Pop Culture

Easy Listening: Good Hang with Amy Poehler. Lisa is loving this podcast for its guests and raves about Amy being a great interviewer.

The Swifty Selection: Melissa hyped the docuseries Taylor Swift: The End of an Era. It’s more than a concert film; it’s an exploration of leadership and the power of gratitude in navigating a record-breaking career.

The Unique Premise: Last Meals, a series from YouTube’s Mythical Kitchen has captivated Tess. This one-of-a-kind series asks celebrity guests what they’d eat for their final meal and uncovers surprising stories about legacy and what truly matters.

The Blake Crouch Catalog

Our team praised multiple must-read books from the mind of prolific writer Blake Crouch. They all agreed that "Dark Matter" the book was better than the TV show. Dark Matter is a sci-fi thriller in which a physics professor is abducted into a labyrinth of alternate realities. He’s forced into a desperate race through infinite versions of his own existence to find the one home he’s lost.

For a more grounded, but no less terrifying, look at the future, TJ pointed to "Upgrade." In this techno-thriller, a near-fatal injury leads to a genetic "improvement" that turns the protagonist into something more than human.

TJ and Tess both recommend the "Wayward Pines" trilogy. This genre-defying saga follows a Secret Service agent as he wakes up in a picturesque Idaho town that hides many secrets.

Diving Deeper

The Skeptic’s Choice: Our developer Alex suggests If Books Could Kill. If you’ve ever read popular science titles and found it a bit…lacking in substance, this may be the antidote. Host Michael Hobbes deconstructs popular science literature, spanning from the mainstream to the controversial.

The Humble Historian: Ben recommends Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History with Dan Carlin. This isn't your average lecture; it’s an immersive experience. He specifically suggested the four-part Mongol Empire saga, Wrath of the Khans.

The Unique Perspective: Michelle and Lisa both recommend "Remarkably Bright Creatures" by Shelby Van Pelt. Written through the eyes of a giant octopus, the unique novel delivers big on nuanced and emotional exploration. Soon to be a Netflix film!

A Costco Coincidence

Great minds shop alike. We spent all month gathering top-tier recommendations for books and binge-worthy TV, but our CEO, Trip, and Founder, Joel, might have just dropped the most important Staff Pick of all. The duo showed up to lunch in identical Costco sweaters.

No, this wasn't planned, as evidenced by the "glitch in the matrix" expressions on their faces. Joel and Trip lead the company with a shared vision and they also share a taste for high-quality, warehouse-club comfort.
