ABITEC Corp, a specialty chemical and lipid-based product company, serves the food, nutrition, pharmaceutical, and personal care industries. A key marketing strategy for their lipids and specialty chemicals involves a sample program to assess product effectiveness through controlled testing. The Columbus division of ABITEC engaged us to help improve their sample ordering process.
The Challenge: Manual Processes Slowed Growth & Cost Time
ABITEC’s manual sample ordering system depended heavily on specific employees. Website sample orders were manually sorted and distributed to the sales team, filtered by customer type, region, and product application with numerous manual exceptions. The company sought to automate these intricate, manual business rules to support future growth.
The Solution: Automated Rules Engine Streamlined Approvals
Switchbox collaborated with ABITEC’s sales and marketing team to define the specific business rules for their sample system. Through four meetings, the development team established an initial project scope and wireframes. The resulting website evaluated each sample request based on criteria such as country of origin, requested pharmaceutical, assigned sales representative, and other relevant factors to secure sales approval. In most cases, the sample could be automatically approved and sent to the manufacturing facility, significantly reducing staff time.
Following the development of the web application, ABITEC’s internal team recognized the potential of the collected data to enhance their sales and marketing strategies. Consequently, an interactive dashboard was developed to visualize this information.
The Outcome: 1,803 Hours Saved with Zero-Touch Ordering
The new web application has eliminated the need to have a single person manage all orders, removed the human intervention on most orders completely, and significantly enhanced the delivery speed for orders. Customer communication has increased and the sales and marketing team has significantly more time.
