The Challenge
Duplicate data made reporting a mess
Certain incoming data was being duplicated for each R&D project. The data was not organized for reporting on multiple projects. With many customers investing in several projects each tax year, Clarus R+D needed a solution to handle tracking of those multiple projects and present users with a coherent, comprehensive view of their R&D tax position.
Our Approach
Re-architecting the user experience around R&D workflows
Switchbox worked with the Clarus R+D team to evaluate their existing application and identify the root cause of the data duplication and reporting limitations. We identified that the core issue was a lack of structured organization by project and year, and designed a React-based frontend architecture that would group data logically, support new questionnaire flows, and enable real-time tax credit calculations as users completed each step.
The redesign prioritized a clean, step-by-step user experience with save-and-resume functionality—recognizing that tax credit workflows are often completed over multiple sessions.
What We Built
Tailored dashboard centralized R&D project data
Switchbox built a redesigned user interface using React, establishing a highly functional front-end user experience. This included a new user dashboard that groups all information by year and by project.
New questionnaires were built to ensure maximization of available tax credits for customers. Information is stored throughout the process, and businesses are able to start and stop a questionnaire where they left off. Real-time calculations alert users to their current R&D tax credit as they progress.

The new user interface has helped Clarus R+D customers gain more control over their R&D tax data. The dashboard guides users through each step of the process in a way that is user-friendly and groups items together by project and by year.
